Nabad presents an exhibition of works by celebrated Lebanese artist, Hussein Madi. His third solo show at Nabad, this exhibition features paintings, collages and reliefs, as well as a number of giclèe prints, in which the artist’s pictorial vocabulary continues to display ironic playfulness in joyful, vibrant colours. These experiments in colour have produced a unique body of work that relates to the principles of divine harmony that inform the abstract designs of Islamic art. Whether in two or three dimensions, Madi’s works exude a spontaneity that belies the meticulousness that the artist invests in each work. As Madi himself puts it: “Each object in nature, whether a bird, person or tree, contains its own specific unchanging inner structure. In conceiving my art, I am driven by one basic logic, namely, preserving this inner structure.”
